What the best pixel/sprite editor free?

Discussion of tools and resources for game developers

Post » Sun Feb 22, 2015 11:24 am

I've been looking around for pixel/sprite editor, but can't find any that works for me. I've been trying to find one that plays animations and has a suitable working environment as well. Please post if you know of a good editor. Thanks!

Some others that are more geared to Sprite only:

Spartan:
http://www.vitruality.com/2014/10/spartan-v1-1/
Not too bad. Has some nice generators for brick and water.

Piskel:
http://www.piskelapp.com/
Need an account for all the features (FREE). Works on Chromebooks and tablet devices. Nice way to share and learn from others.

For Smooth edge SVG there are a couple of online edtiors :
SVG edit from google : http://svg-edit.googlecode.com/svn-hist ... ditor.html

Method draw : http://editor.method.ac/

EDIT:

Piskel has a nice new standalone version that works either locally, or along with your free gallery. Linux,Mac,Win It uses node webkit :)

Aseprite has a built-in animation preview. It's also pretty easy to use. It's not free but you can get it for $10 at least, which is basically nothing, or you can set your own price above $10 if you feel like it.
