When will CocoonJS support letterbox mode?

    Really want to know this.

    Testing all the devices with different resolutions is so hard.

    Nowadays there are many Android devices with big size screens, so I think little black bars are not that problem.

  • I set it at LetterBox Scale on the Export (Even Though Cocoon Defaults it to Scale Outer) Then choose "Scale to Fit" and only one of the orientation options (instead of checking both) as long as the app is put together right that combo has scaled with all of my android devices.

    I` m gonna try that option. How does it look like? You may get black bars on right or bottom of the screen, or get some of your assets cropped by screen. How do you manage it?

  • I've asked ludei for help on supporting letterbox mode but we haven't figured it out yet. Hopefully we can get it sorted soon.

    My issue with Scale Outer is that it creates a bunch of whitespace around the edges of the render.

    I understand this can be resolved by extending the background of my game, but the problem is I'm creating a board game with a defined play area, and this area won't be extended along with the background.

    Letterbox scale desperately needs to be integrated, and it would be nice to get official word on this.

  • Yes, i would also like to know an update to this problem. The Scale outer is not cutting it for me. 8)

  • Probably never. Letterbox integer scale isn't meant for mobile devices..looks bad.

  • Yes, Letterbox Integer Scale does, but Letterbox Scale (not integer) looks great in most browsers.

    The question is, when/if will this be supported in cocoonJS?

    Being able to run a program at fullscreen without strange scaling issues doesn't seem like that big of a deal in many other development kits.

  • We've asked them to support it several times, but their release schedule is pretty slow.

    Any ideas if this is on Ludei's to-do list? I know there are workarounds without letterbox but this form of scaling seems the easiest.

    Ashley mentioned that Intel XDK is good alternative to CocoonJS.

    Maybe they already support Letterbox mode?

  • szymek - That's the old appMobi right? They seem great, except for the black screen your game will inevitably get. They told me they would soon fix the problem over a year ago I think it was now, and trying it just last month the issue is still there.
