Where do your assets come from?

Discuss game development design and post your game ideas

Hello,

Are you:
- hiring artists to create your assets,
- do you make them by yourself,
- do you purchase them from assets platforms,
- do you find them for free on free assets platforms,
- do you use what you find on google (whatever the license)?

Just curious. I have seen games with very nice graphics in the completed games sections and I am really wondering.

1) Some Yes, Some No. I don't, and some draw it themselves.
2) Some People.
3) Visit the Scirra Store and you'll find out that many do.
4) So many sites give assets for free, for example Kenney.nl provides free assets or Scirra Bundle provides it if you purchase a license. (Also Opengameart.org is popular for free assets.)

5)Absolutely not. What I mean, we don't just download anything on google with just any license. There are some procedures to make it legal.
You need to find the right license for assets. It is free if:

(I am not a lawyer and this is just based on my opinion and I am not liable for anything and the reader may choose to believe me or not. It is up to them!)

1) It is a Public Domain or Open source (then you can do anything with it as long as you don't break the publisher's own rules.)
2) If it is within the CC License then I believe it is likely to be free and can be used commercially if it doesn't break any rules. (depends on the kind of license)

3) It is free if you credit the maker and you come to an agreement. More likely a CC License.

I find them for free on free assets platforms, like here in the scirra forum :)

About 80% of the assets used in my project so far are my design and creation, but i do need some help on sounds ans things like that so those i aquired on the scirra store. There are lots of assets i have biught on here, and have them handy just in case i need them. Is a good thing to make ur own assets, as there are things u want in ur game to make it unique, but is also a good idea to make some investing on assets. U shiuld check regularly on the store, there are always good deals.

I make the graphics myself (that's my strenght, programming not so much) and get my sound effects from freesounds.org or similar sites.

I make most of my own as well. I sometimes find inspiration from some of the assets that are sold on other sites.
I've gotten some stuff from GraphicRiver. But their licensing is too restrictive without paying more for commercial use.

My favorite is... https://www.gamedevmarket.net . They're pretty cheap and they have a simple, one-size-fits-all license.

I make them all myself, I'm a bit of an entrepreneur! :D

I also take requests! If you wanna check out my portfolio, you can find free assets here: http://kiiragames.weebly.com/pixel-art- ... tions.html
I'm becoming increasingly better at art, and would love to be able to give to the community, so if you want anything, you can always just ask!
Everything I make is free by the way :)
