It's because of the status bar. With that there, you don't have the whole 960x640 to work with, causing the project to be scaled down and leaving a gap.

Have you tested on the device itself? When I tried appmobi on my ipad, iirc, the status bar was hidden.Arima2012-11-21 07:45:15

It's the same issue with the device as well. So what should be the ideal window size i should i be using to make it fit ? Also status bar is occupying the height but why X is scaled down ? Is it because Y scaled down the corresponding is scaled down in X as well ?

Yes, resizing one axis resizes the other automatically.

The problem is that there is no ideal screen resolution. Even if you find a way to get rid of the status bar completely, there's the issue of the iphone 5 as well, and other devices if you decide to get it on android or web browsers. I get around all the screen resolution variances by using fullscreen scale and designing the game with extra content off the sides for various screen ratios, but it's not a simple task programming the ui to adjust automatically to accommodate them seamlessly. I'm actually still learning how to do it properly myself. :/Arima2012-11-21 09:07:15

It's because the area under the top bar has a different aspect ratio to the whole screen. You'll have the same problem running in a browser and on different iOS devices like the iPhone 5 where the aspect ratios are all different.

Try using 'Scale' instead of 'Letterbox scale' and making sure all your artwork looks OK with a range of different aspect ratios.
