While Microsoft has dropped hints that the Internet Explorer brand is going away, the software maker has now confirmed that it will use a new name for its upcoming browser successor, codenamed Project Spartan. Speaking at Microsoft Convergence yesterday, Microsoft's marketing chief Chris Capossela revealed that the company is currently working on a new name and brand. "We’re now researching what the new brand, or the new name, for our browser should be in Windows 10," said Capossela. "We’ll continue to have Internet Explorer, but we’ll also have a new browser called Project Spartan, which is codenamed Project Spartan. We have to name the thing."

Internet Explorer will still exist in some versions of Windows 10 mainly for enterprise compatibility, but the new Project Spartan will be named separately and will be the primary way for Windows 10 users to access the web. Microsoft has tried, unsuccessfully, to shake off the negative image of Internet Explorer over the past several years with a series of amusing campaigns mocking Internet Explorer 6. The ads didn't improve the situation, and Microsoft's former Internet Explorer chief left the company in December, signalling a new era for the browser.

I think they will replace it completely with spartan, internrt explorer will stay but will not be a concern for them anymore, while I think about it, IE became not so bad in the end, so I think they can potentially do something really good with spartan.

Welcome to Internet Explorer, a great place to download Chrome! How may we help you?

1. Download Google Chrome

2. Download FireFox

3. Delete Internet Explorer

@Aphrodite, @liquidmetal, @s0nic5o000 - Do you have known that Project Spartan now has been announced as Microsoft Edge?

Edge actually looks like it will be a great browser, on par with Chrome. The main problem is everyone will have to update their OS to Windows 10 to get it.

Better browser will be hard to define, browsers have more to them than strictly performances, chrome has become one of my least favorite browser, while I love opera (which I think is based off chromium) because of simple things that add values:

Better general browsing performances on it (which I don't understand, it just works better for a general purpose on my devices)
Lock the desktop user-agent in the parameters rather than for a single tab (mobile versions on a tab? No, I want the internet, not the reduced version filled with fullscreen/autoredirect irrelevant ads, go learn to make responsives websites based on the screen size and don't limit me because of what OS I use!)
Save pages for later (may be present in others but it is just more convenient in this one).
I choose the browser interface, me, not somekind of screen size check.)

It may not be possible to enable webGL in it, but a browser must browse first.

So hard to défine a better browser, even though spec compliance is important, we all know that as long as browsers won't be perfect, people will try to sniff them anyway, ruinning the whole point of having specs.
