  • Supposed to update this on 29th Nov <img src="smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

    20+ days ago, I gave myself a challenge of finishing a game prototype whose ideas could fit in one single page; yes you heard it right.. 1 single page I said

    It was a daunting task, considering that I had to squeeze everything on one page and also resist myself from creating more ideas of gameplay as the development time would be directly proportional.

    So, heres how it started:

    <img src="http://srikrishnadas.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/dsc02756.jpg" border="0" />

    Wondering what this is?

    Remember Battle City? or should I say Tank 1990? or Tank on pirated cartridges for Gameboy and other 8-bit game consoles.

    <img src="http://blog.toonheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/tank1.jpg" border="0" />

    Well, my self-challenge isnt really the same, but lets say like a tribute to one of the earlier games Ive played.

    I could very well have done a platformer (considering Mario was supposedly the first game most of us ever played here in India) but hey .. I was already having 2 platformers under prototyping .. and Ive shelved one.. the other one is on standby.

    Wanted to do something that would be a small game, without having to churn out new dynamic ideas and hence causing the development to go long.

    Initial wish was to complete the prototype in a week, but later I did give into the temptation of pushing new ideas into the gameplay and finally snubbed it at 20-21ish day prototyping.

    Be-Hold! .. my first game (technically not my first game), to finish prototyping stage. Tank Them Up!

    .. written as Tank em Up! A top down Tank shooter game with new environment dynamics that effect gameplay and with Missions!

    Note: This is a prototype and hence the sprites used are either rough drawn or lifted off the Internet. None of them will make into the final game . so excuse the graphics and try resisting getting dizzy/making faces while looking at the prototype screenshots <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

    <img src="http://blog.toonheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/DSC02843.jpg" border="0" />

    If you thought it was just the idea that was one one page.. then news for you I took it to the next level, by being stringent and mashing up all the gameplay I wanted in a single stage.

    <img src="http://blog.toonheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/DSC02844.jpg" border="0" />

    Finished fixing the last few bugs this morning; 2 math bugs, 1 multiple screen size support bug to be precise, and by evening tested out CocoonJs wrapped version of the game with installer and gameplay on Android device.

    Flagging this off as Prototype Complete! and ready to go into Development

    Wooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

    Whats Next?

    Well, essentially the project will now enter development phase.. which means more useful sleepless nights for me, a ton of doodling, sketching, design, art, hunt for good audio artist, testing, playing, hair pulling,

    So Lets Go!

  • well good luck, it seems you know your game production flow:)

  • Artwork update :)

    This must be the first time ever, that any Indie game studio took its facebook fan choices seriously and put them into development.

    Yes, were probably the first one doing it this way.

    So, this time we presented them with our prototype artwork concepts for the tank that they would like to drive around for the game Tank em Up!

    We count the scores and then finally get to color and create sprites for the concepts chosen by the fans

    This is what they chose: Be Hold! . the BloodBeetle.
