• Hello Construct users alike, I have a very interesting topic to cover here.

Meanwhile with a heated debate on the new multiplayer engine to hit Construct 2 in the near future, I decided to open up a thread discussion to talk about, and dissect ideas regarding multiplayer being used as a social inputting device to create a game.

Check out Twitch TV social game-Twitch plays Pokemon

This idea is awesome, I would have never in a million years would have thought of this idea. I will be trying to create a Construct game that integrates a system similar to this off of Twitch, using the new multilayer engine!

I will need to create a local prototype of a system first to see if it is possible, which I am pretty sure with the right amount of work can be pulled off.

    Stay thirsty!

  • The debate was mostly not understanding the technology and how the technology works.

As for twitch, I think you can do it. Good luck.

I should probably edit what I had said, I don't mean that this should be included in the debate, I should clarify and say meanwhile, with the debate.

But anywho, I will see what I can come up with in the meantime. Thanks for the support.

  • What the heck is going on in that video?! LOL Or...is that LIVE? Honestly, I am not following what's happening. Explain to me what's happening here?

  • Rhindon

What is happening, is it is a live stream of the entire Pokemon game. What controls the player is anyone that is typing into the comment box on the right, those commands are then recognized by the game and is simulating a player pressing down a button (a, or b) or going in any direction (left, down, right and up).

It is a different twist, given the idea that there is not ONE person controlling, its the entire Twitch live stream viewers trying to play the game at the same time.

I thought that it would be a really great opportunity to be creative inside C2 with this idea.

  • Whooaaa! So...I saw a lot of people typing Democracy and Anarchy. And then the bar at the top between the two. How does that factor in?

  • Rhindon

This is taken off the FAQ:

    "Anarchy and Democracy

TwitchPlaysPokemon now has two modes, anarchy and democracy.

Anarchy mode is the "old" mode, where everyone's inputs are applied immediately.

Democracy mode is vote-based and has a more sophisticated input system.

In order to switch from one mode to the other, the mode that isn't active needs 75% of votes as indicated by the dotted line, the current percentage of votes is indicated by the black line.

In democracy mode you can compile a sequence of inputs. left2 will move left twice, left2down2 will move left twice and down twice."

So thats where the commands for the two come into play.

  • Interesting. That makes a little more sense.

That's a completely NEW style of gameplay I've never even remotely thought of before. Talk about an MMO of a whole new calibre.

  • Try Construct 3

I thought I would share it with the community, we could make very good use of this idea, and maybe spawn some new ways of interacting with one another.

I will be trying to sort out a prototype on how this will work on the Construct level and see if the community accepts something of this.

  • I'm thinking...a MULTI-citizen Sim-City: C2 Edition. Everyone's interaction with each other builds homes, condos, jobs, etc. Even picnic tables.

  • Funny thing is, this has existed for a really long time. The idea is not new, just applied in such a way as to create tons of interest from both streamers and gamers, specifically those of 20-somethings.

I'd actually considered something like this for the longest time. The inspiration for me was an Adler Planetarium Event over a decade ago where everyone in the audience got to partake in a voting system on armchairs to control the direction of a spacecraft.

  • i think with the multiplayer plugin we could make a simple social game for the forum users

you know, with interactive avatars and stuff

my only concern is the save game function with multiplayer

this gave me a headache so big a while back with a local multiplayer project that i just abandoned it

  • Whilst an interesting experiment it is hardly classed as gaming.

  • DatapawWolf

What made you decide not to pursue your idea?

    valdarko

I was thinking of something more complex could be done with this, I got a great idea I will be experimenting on in the coming weeks.

    spongehammer

In some peoples opnions, it could be considered gaming. Its a different experience in interactivity.
