I just came across this article which hints at the possiblity of Windows 8 apps on the Xbox One - Apparently the Microsoft rep showed "A simple web app" running on the new Xbox.

This could be some interesting news for C2 developers!

Woah! Would be amazing if they did support it, especially with WebGL support. I really hope they support the Gamepad API instead of mapping controller keys to keyboard keys like they've done before, though.

@Ashley official Kinect plugin? ;)

My mind boggles at how that would even work.

Yeah, this is great! It's not inconceivable that IE11 would be the tech behind it, and that means WebGL!

The real question though is the issue of microsoft not allowing self publishing. I find it hard to believe they would require a publisher for win 8 apps. It might turn out to be the new xbox live indie games section.

I honestly have to wonder though if node webkit exported exes could run on the thing. A lot of the games at e3 were running on win 7 pcs.

Still, it appears that the only one who hasn't come out with support for web tech on their system is sony. C'mon sony, support html5 for games!

@Arima bring up an interesting point - how much work would it take for Node-webkit to run on the next-gen consoles?

@Ashley have you contacted Node-Webkit about this?

I'll name @rogerwang just in case he's still active here.

I wouldn't expect traditional desktop apps to run on a console. Usually they aren't running a full version of an OS - just enough to bootstrap games and apps with a menu.

@Ashley yeah, but what I'm asking is (and you may not know) how feasible it is for Node-webkit to add the ability to run on these machines. They have PC-like architecture so surely it couldn't be that hard.
