Probiotics, they are living things which live in the human body, microorganisms, bacteria.
Now I know that most of you think of infections and disease, even death in some cases, when I mention bacteria and it is only natural, they can be the harbingers of health problems, but probiotics are different, a lot different than pathogens, they are safe and they promote a better health, a better and stronger immune system, a more efficient digestion. These benefits that I talk about can be different depending on the strain, there are individual strains even in a specific genus or species like Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium and depending on which supplement you choose, you will receive different benefits and different strains. But why use a probiotic supplement and not get them from food, this is a question asked by many people. It depends on the individual and in some cases a supplement is a better option but if you don't have problems with your stomach and with infections, well it probably means you don't need a probiotic in the first place, you probably get enough of what you need from your diet and healthy lifestyle but probiotics don't survive good in harsh conditions, stress, unhealthy nutrition, dehydration, use of antibiotics and so on.
Antibiotics will kill probiotics, no doubt about it, because they are bacteria so the stronger the antibiotic you use, the higher the chances of having side-effects, harming your gastrointestinal microflora and causing things like diarrhea or stomach pain. Some people say they have no problem with using antibiotics but the body is different in each individual and some people react differently. Usually using an antibiotic means losing some probiotics and it's not always harmful, but sometimes it is and so a probiotic can be a good choice in such a situation. I used not one but multiple antibiotics, of course not at the same time, when I was a kid because of my acnee, I had some ugly skin problems and I did struggle with stomach pain and diarrhea because of this, I don't even know if there were probiotics back then but it would've been useful for sure.
