There are topical treatments where you can apply a solution on the toenail but because the toenail is like a very strong, thick, impenetrable wall, topical treatments are not very effective. Oral antifungal drugs or sprays like Zetaclear might work better but even in this case it will definitely take months and so one thing to keep in mind is that you will certainly have to be patient.
One thing that you will want to consider is side-effects. For topical solutions, there is very little of anything to worry about but for tablets or sublingual sprays like ZetaClear, well, there may be side-effects but these are more effective than topical solutions. In such a case, it's best to consult with your medic and again, sooner is better than later. This infection is very superficial and it's generally asymptomatic which means it does not produce symptoms and because of this many people ignore it or don't worry much about it.
Do not make this mistake, it can spread to other toenails, it looks terrible and there have been a number of cases where the skin was affected and there were pain and sensation of burning with the peeling of skin and even mild bleeding at the skin's surface.
